18) Albert Sauer House
The Albert Sauer House, building #21, 327 Old McHenry Road.
In 1854, the Sauer family left Germany for America via the port of Le Havre, France. They briefly settled in New York before coming to Long Grove in 1855.
Albert was born in Long Grove in 1863, the youngest of their four boys and three girls. He worked in the village’s general store from 1882 until 1931. The Sauer family operated several general stores in the area, including stores in Wauconda and Chicago.
