20) Chris Sauer House
The Chris Sauer House, building #19, 309 Old McHenry Road.
Chris was the oldest of the Sauer boys and built this home in 1869.
During the 1850’s, as a young man, Chris worked for Long Grove’s pioneer merchant Charles Stempel. He served in the Civil War and sustained a severe injury at the Battle of Missionary Ridge, losing a leg. Following his death in 1891, his younger brother Albert married his widow.
