16) Weidner Farmhouse
The Weidner Farmhouse, building #21, at the back corner of the Stempel lot.
This early farmhouse, dating from the 1850’s, is a two-story white building. It was moved here by the Long Grove Historical Society to be used as a museum, store, office, and meeting place for the society and visitors. It is generally open only by appointment.
The farmhouse was originally owned by the Weidner family and was located on Buffalo Grove Road. Family lore holds that the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 was visible from the house.
As you face the farmhouse, to your left you’ll notice the parking lot entrance, known as Historical Lane, which leads into town.
Head down Historical Lane — your next stop will be the cluster of red buildings on your right, just before you reach the street.
