The Chris Sauer House

Building #19 is the Chris Sauer House, 309 Old McHenry Road. Chris was the oldest of the Sauer boys, and built this home in 1869. In the 1850's, as a young man, Chris had worked for Long Grove's pioneer merchant, Charles Stempel. Chris fought in the Civil War and lost a leg at the Battle of Missionary Ridge. When Chris passed away in 1891, his younger brother Albert married his widow. Proceed to the crossroads and turn right at the crossroads, such that you come to the steps of the largest building on the crossroads – building #17. Press NEXT STOP when you arrive.
